May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and here at Gospel Highway Eleven, we’re taking time this Be Well Wednesday to highlight the importance of wellness—mind, body, and spirit.
One conversation that’s long overdue in many churches is this one: mental health is real, and it matters to God.
For far too long, people in the pews have suffered in silence—told to “pray it away,” “be strong,” or to “just have faith.” And while we know the power of prayer is real, so is the need for proper mental health care. Seeking therapy, support groups, medication, or simply admitting you’re not okay does not make you weak or unspiritual. It makes you human.
Psalm 34:18 reminds us that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
If God draws near to the brokenhearted, why would we push them away or pretend they don’t exist in our churches?
Here’s the truth:
- It’s okay to talk about anxiety.
- It’s okay to seek therapy.
- It’s okay to admit you’re tired or overwhelmed.
- It’s okay to need help.
Let’s change the narrative. Let’s make the church a place where healing is holistic—where we can pray and get counseling, read scripture and set boundaries, fast and find a therapist.
If you’re struggling, please know: you’re not alone. There are resources, people, and faith communities that want to support you—not judge you.
Let’s keep the conversation going. Join us over on Facebook at facebook.com/gospelhighway11 and tell us how your faith and mental wellness walk together.
💚 Be well. Stay well. Walk in wholeness.
